Coyotes were my first doorway into photography. The coyote on the cover is one of the originals I followed—a blond female I encountered most often, especially before the pandemic. She became a familiar presence, appearing with regularity along the edges of the fields.

There were others too: a reddish‑brown coyote and a larger grey one, each distinct in stature and character.

I seldom visit that area now, and it has been years since I last photographed a coyote. Yet this image remains one of my favorites, perhaps because she was among the first, marking the beginning of my journey.
